Shibboleth federated security

What it means: Shibboleth is a software framework originating from the Internet2 project, developed to provide federated security services for distributed processing infrastructures. Within such a system, each member organization carries the responsibility for securing its own perimeter—granting or revoking access to its resources as well as confirming the identity of its members. Such a model enables multiple organizations to join a project, on the one hand allowing access to sensitive resources they are holding, on the other maintaining full control over these. The system scales to a theoretically unlimited number of member organizations.
