Grid technologies and Grid middleware

What it means: These describe a collection of technologies used to implement Grids. Grid technologies usually include: scheduling, meta-scheduling, security, portals, data transfer, information services, and higher level services. The term “Grid middleware” is sometimes used to describe toolkits that implement some or all of the above. In academia, Grid middleware usually means complex toolkits such as Globus Toolkit, gLite, or LCG. In the commercial world, the term is sometimes synonymous with a workload manager (scheduler).
