IT w Krakowie (ITK): portal and community

"IT w Krakowie (ITK)" literally means "IT in Krakow". ITK is both a news portal, and a non-profit and an apolitical group of dynamic volunteers whose mission is to build and develop the IT community in Krakow, Poland, Since the early 1990s, Krakow has led an impressive growth in IT activity, resulting in the region being called a Central Europe’s „Silicon Valley“. The portal it.wkrakowie.org was established in 2005, and then became the town’s main communication platform for the local IT crowd. ITK has organized regular conferences for hundreds of participants, interviewed candidates for town’s presidency for IT-literacy, successfully promoted WiFi in Krakow’s pubs and cafes, and run monthly technology discussion breakfasts. GridwiseTech is extremely proud to be the initiator and patron of the ITK initiative. Read more about at it.wkrakowie.org.

The ViroLab Project (2006-2009)

The ViroLab project was a joint effort, led by the University of Amsterdam, to create a virtual laboratory for combating HIV and other infectious diseases. Immense medical databases available from various institutions were combined and processed to develop the most promising pharmaceuticals. These may in the future become part of new, revolutionary drugs.

GridwiseTech was an active member of the consortium from the project’s outset. Our role was to efficiently and securely integrate distributed data sources, as well as providing means to administrate their access rights.
